ABS Awarded Construction for New Story Learning Center
July 2010

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. was awarded the general construction work for construction of a New Story Learning Center to be located in Kenhorst, PA. The project involves demolition and renovations to an existing building to create the new school facilities. The project also includes constructing a new addition to house a new lobby and elevator.

The project will start in early August 2010 and is scheduled to be complete by December 2010.

ABS Wins ABC Merit Eagle Award for Caron Project
July 2010

ABS is proud to announce that they have been awarded an ABC 2010 Merit Award for their efforts in constructing the Caron Treatment Center Building No. 3000 project.

The project was completed last fall 2009 for Caron Treatment Centers and included a new 24 bed facility.

The project won in the General Contractor Commercial/Under $2 million competition division. ABC Keystone’s Excellence in Construction Awards Program has become the premier competition within the construction industry and recognizes outstanding construction projects across the region, and across the country.

ABS/WCC to Provide Preconstruction Services for New Doubletree Hotel in Reading City
May 2010

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. and their joint venture partner Wohlsen Construction Company (Lancaster, PA) will be providing Preconstruction Services during the next four months for the new Doubletree Hotel to be built in the City of Reading, across from the Sovereign Center.

The new 8 story hotel will feature a grand ballroom, restaurant, over 200 guest rooms, full kitchen facilities, meeting rooms and conference facilities.

The Architect is Olsen Design Group Architects (Reading, PA).

The project is slated to start construction by October 2010.


ABS Receives Gold Level Status in Safety from ABC
April 2010

The Keystone Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) has awarded Advanced Building Systems, Inc. the Gold Level Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) award. ABC's safety evaluation program (STEP = Safety Training & Evaluation Process) is the cornerstone of safety program improvements.

The STEP Program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. The benefits of this program are to have an organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs as well as a valid, objective method for measuring safety program improvements.

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. is proud of its Safety program and is honored to continue to receive such validation of our efforts for our employees, subcontractors, suppliers and clients.


ABS Awarded Contract to Furnish and Erect Two New Metal Buildings for Harrisburg Authority Sludge Plant
January 2010

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. was awarded the contract to furnish and erect 2 new metal buildings through a contract with Wohlsen Construction Company (Lancaster, PA) at the Harrisburg Authority Sludge Treatment Facility in Harrisburg, PA.   

The project delivery is scheduled for April/May 2010. ABS represents Varco Pruden (VP) Buildings, who will be providing the materials for the metal buildings.

ABS Awarded Renovations Work for The Windsor Press Facility
January 2010

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. will continue the working relationship with The Windsor Press Inc. company located in Hamburg, PA to perform reconstruction and renovations work on their facility that was damaged this past March 2009 by fire.

The Architect is Olsen Design Group Architects of Reading, PA. Engineers are Barry Isett and Associates. ABS worked as a member of the team on preconstruction budgets and assisted with guiding the Owner and team thru the process to establishing the construction budget. Project Manager will be Kevin Manmiller, and superintendent will be Mike Breisch.

The project started January 25, 2010 and is scheduled for completion in Mid May 2010.

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. was awarded the general construction work for a new 48,000 Square Foot Redner’s Warehouse Market in Bensalem, PA.

The project manager will be Kevin Manmiller and the project superintendent will be Buzz Haake.  The project will start in early October 2009 and is scheduled to be complete by February 2010.

ABS Receives Gold Level Status in Safety from ABC
August 2009

The Keystone Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) has awarded Advanced Building Systems, Inc. the Gold Level Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) award. Many ABC members go the extra mile to ensure the safety of their own workers by employing aggressive job safety and health programs.

The annual Safety Awards is a celebration of those companies and their successes. The anchor of the ABC program is a national model called S.T.E.P. (Safety Training & Evaluation Process), the only such program in the country that provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts.

ABS Awarded Construction for New Patient Care Building

Advanced Building Systems, Inc. was awarded the general construction work for a new 13,000 SF patient care facility for Caron Treatment Center, Wernersville, PA.

The project manager will be Kevin Manmiller and the project superintendent will be Mike Breisch. Project is expected to start by the end of May 2009.

Thorsen Appointed ABC Keystone 2009 Director
January 2009

John M. Thorsen was appointed as the newest member of the 2009 Board of Directors of the Keystone Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. Thorsen is President and COO of Advanced Building Systems, Inc. in Reading. Thorsen graduated from Penn State University in 1986 with a degree in Architectural Engineering and a minor in Construction Management. John has over 23 years of experience in the construction business.

ABS chosen to aid Boyertown Foundry Company in Expansion
January 2009

ABS has been chosen as the Design Build Contractor to aid Boyertown Foundry Company with the expansion of their facility. Boyertown Foundry is located in New Berlinville, PA. Boyertown Foundry Company's line of business is manufacturing of non-electric heating equipment.

Preconstruction and design has started with construction estimated to start in mid-March 2009 on the 19,000 sf addition.
